Ride-hailing can be convenient in Chongqing, but a successful booking depends on choosing a pickup point where a car can actually stop. A pin placed on the wrong side of a divided road, above a tunnel or inside a large complex can leave both passenger and driver searching.
The goal is simple: choose a legal, reachable stopping point, then make it easy for the driver to identify you.
Do not rely on the pin alone
Chongqing has elevated roads, underpasses, one-way streets, bridges and buildings with entrances at different levels. Two pins that look close on a map may be separated by a barrier or a road with no pedestrian crossing.
Before confirming the ride, check the road name and which side of the road the pickup point is on. Look for a designated taxi or ride-hailing area where one is provided. Avoid selecting a point on a bridge, tunnel, expressway ramp or restricted entrance.
Use a recognisable entrance
At a hotel, shopping centre, railway station or attraction, use the pickup area recommended by the venue or the ride-hailing app. A main entrance may be easier for a driver to find than a side door or an underground level.
If the app offers several nearby pickup suggestions, compare them with the signs on the ground. Do not walk across traffic to reach a pin. If the point is on the wrong side, move the pickup point to a safe, accessible location before the driver arrives.
Share a clear description
If the app provides a chat or call function, send a short message with a visible landmark and the entrance you are waiting at. Save the Chinese name of your hotel or destination so you can show it to the driver.
Useful phrases:
- 我在正门。 — I am at the main entrance.
- 我在地面一层。 — I am at ground level.
- 请到出租车上客点。 — Please come to the taxi pickup area.
- 我穿着…… — I am wearing …
Use the app’s built-in translation if needed. Avoid sharing unnecessary personal details.
At stations and busy attractions
Railway stations and popular attractions may have designated pickup zones, traffic controls or temporary restrictions. Follow current signs and staff instructions rather than waiting at the nearest road edge. At busy times, allow extra time to walk from the exit to the pickup zone.
If a driver cannot reach you, do not ask them to stop in a prohibited place. Agree on another legal pickup point through the app.
Before you book
- Confirm the correct entrance or roadside level.
- Check that pedestrians can safely reach the pickup point.
- Prefer signed pickup areas and legal stopping places.
- Share a short landmark description in the app.
- Match the vehicle and plate details shown in the app before getting in.
App screens, pickup rules and station traffic arrangements can change. Follow the current instructions in the app and on-site signs.
